Expert Biomechanical and Gait Analysis At Harley Medical Foot and Nail Clinic
Gait analysis is a detailed assessment of how you walk, run or stand — examining the movement and alignment of your feet, ankles, legs, hips and back. At our specialist podiatry clinic we use both observational and advanced video/biomechanical-methods to uncover the root causes of pain or movement problems.

What the Service Entails
Initial Consultation & Movement Review
- A thorough history of your foot, ankle, leg or back symptoms, your activity levels (walking, running, sport) and any previous injuries or treatments.
- Observation of you walking and/or running, both in shoes and barefoot where relevant.
- Assessment of foot posture (flat foot, high arch), alignment of knees/hips/back, and detect any asymmetries (leg-length difference, overpronation/supination).
Video/3 D Biomechanical Analysis
- We may use video capture or 3D motion-analysis tools to slow down and scrutinise your gait cycle: heel strike, mid-stance, toe-off, swing.
- Markers or sensors might be applied for more detailed measurement in complex cases or athletic clients.
Interpretation & Personalised Plan
- A podiatrist will interpret the data and identify the biomechanical faults or alignment issues that are contributing to your symptoms (foot pain, shin-splints, knee/hip/back pain).
- We’ll discuss recommended interventions: this may include custom orthotics (insoles), footwear advice, strengthening and stretching exercises, and gait-retraining strategies.
- Where necessary, we’ll refer you for further podiatric/surgical intervention or collaborate with physiotherapists.
Follow-Up & Implementation
- Once you receive your orthotics or other treatment, we’ll monitor your progress: How your gait improves, how your pain or function is changing.
- Revisits may include re-testing gait to measure improvement and adjust the plan accordingly.
